Patrick Thompson, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, specializes in antitrust, telecommunications and complex litigation matters. He joined Goodwin Procter in 2006.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Mr. Thompson has been an active member of the leadership of the Antitrust Section of the American Bar Association, for which he currently serves on the editorial board of the Antitrust Source. He served as an editor of the Antitrust Law Journal from 1996-2002, and served as the Section’s liaison to the ABA’s Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Legal Profession. Mr. Thompson also served as vice chair on the Executive Committee of the Antitrust and Unfair Competition Section of the State Bar of California (2005), where he was responsible for the Section’s Golden State Institute.

In addition, Mr. Thompson served as chairman of the board of directors of California Pacific Medical Center from 2003-2004, and as a director from 1996-2004. He was actively involved in several committees, including finance, strategic planning, compliance, compensation and community benefits.

Mr. Thompson currently serves as secretary to the Board of Trustees of Grace Cathedral and as secretary to the Board of Trustees of the American Conservatory Theater, for which he also serves as vice chair of the Board’s Conservatory Committee. He previously served on the Board of Directors of Francis of Assisi Community, a low-income housing project for senior citizens and the disabled.

PUBLICATIONS AND PRESENTATIONS

Mr. Thompson has been a speaker on monopolization issues at the Antitrust Section’s Spring Meeting and has made a number of speeches on antitrust and state unfair competition (Business and Professions Code Section 17200) issues in other forums.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Prior to joining Goodwin Procter, Mr. Thompson was a partner in the San Francisco office of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, where he led the firm’s Antitrust Practice.

Mr. Thompson is admitted to practice in California.

RECOGNITION

Based on his substantial antitrust experience, Mr. Thompson has been recognized as one of America’s Top Black Lawyers and was recognized as a Northern California “Super Lawyer” in 2004 and 2005. He was also named one of the top 20 lawyers under the age of 40 in California by the Daily Journal.
