Areas of Practice

Stephen Schreiner is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department and member of its IP Litigation Practice. He focuses on all aspects of intellectual property law including patent litigation, patent prosecution, counseling and due diligence related to electronics, signal processing, software, e-commerce, business methods, digital television, telecommunications, interactive media, the Internet and other areas.

Work for Clients

Mr. Schreiner’s experience includes:

  • Maintaining a patent prosecution docket of over 500 applications.
  • Prosecuted patents in various technology fields, including digital signal processing, cable and satellite communications, control systems, shock mounts, and Internet-related services.
  • Specialist in preparing and prosecuting patent applications in Class 705 at the US PTO for business method applications. Conducted many personal interviews with examiners in Class 705.
  • Favorable jury verdict and settlement in Newport News Shipbuilding v. DTI trade secrets patent case involving military shock mount technology in Eastern District of Virginia.
  • Prepared and filed appeal with Federal Circuit Court of Appeals in Caterpillar v. Detroit Diesel patent case on automated control systems for truck engines filed Northern District of Indiana.
  • Prepared Markman briefs, conducted Markman argument, and conducted numerous depositions in pending patent infringement case on digital television technology in Personalized Media Communications v. Scientific-Atlanta in the Northern District of Georgia.
  • Favorable settlement in RECO v. VSL and LB Foster Co. as the result of representation of large building contractor in patent infringement case involving retaining wall technology.

Mr. Schreiner is on the Board of Editors of Banking Law Journal. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the American Bar Association, and was listed in the 2007 Legal 500 U.S. Leading Intellectual Property Lawyers.
