Derek Steingarten, a partner in the firm's Financial Institutions Group, focuses his practice on investment management and other financial services matters, including private funds, mutual funds and other investment structures, financial services merger and acquisition transactions and regulatory compliance.
WORK FOR CLIENTS
Mr. Steingarten has significant experience advising registered investment advisers, banks and other institutions, as well as the independent directors of mutual funds, regarding complex regulatory issues that impact asset management businesses and the investment products they sponsor. He has particular expertise with the formation and ongoing offering of public and private investment vehicles, including open-end and closed-end mutual funds, onshore and offshore hedge funds, and other types of equity, fixed income and money market products. Mr. Steingarten's transactional practice involves structuring and negotiating mergers liftouts and other strategic transactions for investment advisers, affiliated and unaffiliated mutual funds, private funds and other financial services institutions.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Prior to and while attending law school, Mr. Steingarten worked for the Government of Canada within the Department of Justice and the Department of Foreign Affairs. He is fluent in French and Spanish.
