Carl Metzger, a partner in the firm's Litigation Group and a member of its Securities Litigation & SEC Enforcement Practice, concentrates on complex business litigation for both public and private companies, private equity firms and other business and nonprofit entities.
WORK FOR CLIENTS
Mr. Metzger's experience includes securities litigation defense, financial fraud litigation, governmental and self-regulatory organization investigations, and complex business disputes. He specializes in advising clients on director and officer liability, insurance coverage matters, liability risk prevention and litigation due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Mr. Metzger is currently a co-chair of the American Bar Association's Subcommittee on Securities and the Internet, and he is a former editor of the American Bar Association's journal, Securities News. He is active in pro bono and community activities, including having served on the board of directors of numerous nonprofits.

Mr. Metzger writes and speaks nationally on litigation-related topics, and he has been quoted in such media outlets as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, The Boston Globe, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Corporate Board Member Magazine and CFO Magazine.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Prior to joining Goodwin Procter, Mr. Metzger was a partner at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault in Boston, where he was a member of the Securities Litigation Group and served as the Litigation Partner Liaison to the Private Equity Group. Additionally, he led that firm's risk management and insurance practice areas. Before his private practice, Mr. Metzger clerked for the Honorable John F. McAuliffe of the Maryland Court of Appeals.

Mr. Metzger is admitted to the bars of Massachusetts; Maryland; District of Columbia; the U.S. Supreme Court; the U.S. Court of Appeals, First Circuit; the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit; the U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts; the U.S. District Court, District of Maryland; and the U.S. Tax Court.
RECOGNITION
Mr. Metzger writes and speaks nationally on a variety of litigation-related topics, and he continues to be recognized as a "Massachusetts Super Lawyer" and a “New England Super Lawyer” as published in Boston magazine. He has been elected to The American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel, which is composed of preeminent coverage and extracontractual counsel, representing the interests of both insurers and policyholders.
