Duncan Greenhalgh, a partner in Goodwin Procter's Technology Companies and Intellectual Property Groups, focuses his practice on the procurement and enforcement of intellectual property rights, especially patent rights, for clients in the life sciences field. Dr. Greenhalgh counsels clients on intellectual property matters including the strategic development of patent and trademark portfolios, technology licensing, risk assessment, for example, via clearance surveys, non-infringement and invalidity analyses, and the enforcement of patent and trademark rights. He has extensive experience with patent procurement in both the United States and in foreign jurisdictions.
Dr. Greenhalgh has an extensive science background in biochemistry and biotechnology. Prior to entering the legal profession, he worked for four years performing post doctoral research in the laboratory of Nobel Laureate, Har Gobind Khorana, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Greenhalgh is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association and the Boston Patent Law Association.

Prior to joining Goodwin Procter in 2005, Dr. Greenhalgh was a senior associate at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault LLP in the Patent and Intellectual Property Practice Group.

Dr. Greenhalgh is admitted to the bar in Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
