Areas of Practice

Robert Crawford is an associate in the firm’s Business Law Department and a member of its Intellectual Property Transactions & Strategies Practice. His practice encompasses a broad range of intellectual property and technology matters, including technology licensing with a focus on life sciences, mergers and acquisition of technology companies, intellectual property protection; technology and product development and distribution, business transactions for the life sciences industry, venture capital transactions, trademark prosecution and counseling of clients on various issues relating to patents, trademark, copyrights and trade secrets. Mr. Crawford joined Goodwin Procter in 2000.

Work for Clients

Mr. Crawford represents high-tech, life sciences, private equity and venture capital firms, emerging growth companies and other clients in intellectual property and technology matters. He has substantial transactional experience within the field of mergers and acquisitions of technology and life sciences companies and venture capital transactions related to technology companies. In the life sciences industry, Mr. Crawford has represented private and public life sciences companies in matters such as collaborations, commercialization and distribution agreements, joint ventures and other licensing, supply and development deals that are critical to the life sciences industry. He has also counseled several consumer product and service companies regarding compliance with Internet marketing and promotional laws.

Mr. Crawford represents several companies in the prosecution and maintenance of their trademarks. In addition, he has litigated in the areas of trademark and trade dress, unfair competition, copyright, patent and antitrust law. Mr. Crawford also has significant experience trying cases before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

Professional Activities

Mr. Crawford is a member of the Boston Bar Association, Boston College Law School Intellectual Property Inn of Court and the American Bar Association. He also provides extensive pro bono services to a variety of clients as a member of the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts in Boston and Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Boston Bar Association. In addition, he has served as a mentor to Boston area middle school students as part of the Legal Apprenticeship Program, in partnership with Citizen Schools and Discovering Justice.

Professional Experience

Prior to joining Goodwin Procter, Mr. Crawford spent six years working for The Gillette Company as a project manager focusing on business process integration, supply chain management, data warehousing, customer relationship management and electronic commerce.

Mr. Crawford is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New York. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
