Areas of Practice

Paul Churchill, a partner in the Business Law Department and chair of the firm’s San Francisco office, specializes in a variety of real estate matters including acquisition, development, leasing, disposition, secured financing and restructuring work. He joined Goodwin Procter in 2006.

Work for Clients

On the development front, Mr. Churchill has represented a developer of office and R&D facilities in connection with the acquisition and/or development of over five million square feet of rentable office/R&D space in Santa Clara county; two different development joint ventures developing in the aggregate approximately three million square feet of space in Santa Clara County; a developer specializing in leasing to biotechnology companies; a real estate investment bank that specializes in often unique real estate solutions for its corporate tenants; a luxury hotel developer in connection with its development of a 210-room, four-star, waterfront hotel; and a national hotel developer in its development of a national “all-suites” hotel chain.

Mr. Churchill has also represented financial institutions, pension fund advisors, and developers in connection with origination as well as restructuring of loans secured by real estate. His leasing practice has included the development of the standard form leases for one of San Francisco’s premier high-rise mixed use projects and for numerous Silicon Valley office and industrial buildings.

Professional Activities

Mr. Churchill is a member of the Policy Advisory Board of the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the real property sections of both the American and California Bar Associations, and the San Francisco Bar Association. Mr. Churchill has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, and has been recognized as a Northern California “Super Lawyer” every year since 2004.

Professional Experience

Prior to joining Goodwin Procter, Mr. Churchill was partner in the San Francisco office of Cooley Godward LLP, where he headed the Real Estate Group.
