Areas of Practice

Steve Charkoudian is a partner in the firm’s Business Law Department and chair of the IP Transactions & Strategies Practice. Mr. Charkoudian’s practice encompasses a broad range of intellectual property and technology matters, including advising clients on intellectual property and technology protection and commercialization, due diligence, licensing and transfers, and collaboration and joint development agreements; open source issues; and intellectual property issues in mergers and acquisitions and venture capital and private equity transactions.

Work for Clients

Mr. Charkoudian represents high-tech, life sciences, private equity and venture capital firms, emerging growth companies and other clients in intellectual property matters, including issues relating to patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.

Mr. Charkoudian has represented Haemonetics Corporation in connection with a collaboration and license agreement with Arryx, Inc. under which Haemonetics is licensed to use Arryx’s optical trapping technology to develop applications for human healthcare applications; Vicor Corporation with respect to a license to Sony Corporation that allows Sony to design and manufacture power converters, using Vicor’s V-I Chip technology and Factorized Power Architecture, for use and sale as part of Sony’s products; and Inverness Medical Innovations Inc. in connection with its acquisition of ACON Laboratories Inc.’s manufacturing facility in Hangzhou, China and its business of researching, developing, manufacturing and selling lateral flow immunoassay products in the United States, Canada, Western Europe, Israel, Australia, Japan and New Zealand. Mr. Charkoudian has provided intellectual property and technology counseling and advice to a number of leading private equity and venture capital firms, including Alta Communications and TA Associates.
