Robert Bishop is a partner in the firm’s Business Law Department and a member of its Technology Companies Group. He has over 16 years’ experience representing venture capital and private equity firms and emerging companies. Mr. Bishop is a key contributor to Goodwin Procter Founders Workbench, an online resource for start-ups, emerging companies and the entrepreneurial community.

WORK FOR CLIENTS

Mr. Bishop advises a number of venture capital and private equity clients on early-to-late stage and growth equity investments, including Polaris Venture Partners, General Catalyst Partners, Fairhaven Capital, Advanced Technology Ventures and Rose Park Advisors. He also advises a wide variety of portfolio company clients across a board spectrum of industries, including enterprise software, digital media, ad tech, clean tech, consumer products and social gaming, in connection with various corporate and securities transactions, including private placements and mergers and acquisitions, as well as technology licensing and general business matters.

Mr. Bishop has represented a number of portfolio company clients in connection with sale events to strategic acquirers, including the sale of Digicert to TA Associates, the sale of WHERE, Inc. to Paypal, the sale of Conduit Labs to Zynga, the sale of Nova Technologies Corporation to IDEX Corporation, the sale of Nova Analytics Corporation to ITT Corporation and the sale of Chantry Networks, Inc. to Siemens A.G.  In addition, he represented MTV Networks in connection with its acquisition of Harmonix, Inc. (the maker of the "Guitar Hero" video game) and has represented Iron Mountain Corporation and Digitas, Inc. in connection with various private mergers and acquisitions and divestiture transactions.

Mr. Bishop is a co-author of a chapter in Massachusetts Business Lawyering entitled “Takeover Considerations and Defenses.”

Prior to rejoining Goodwin Procter, Mr. Bishop was a partner at McDermott Will & Emery in that firm's Corporate Department and Private Equity/Emerging Companies Group.
